Don’t miss Northern California Planned Giving Council’s annual review of topical legal and regulatory issues that affect the world of charitable gift planning, presented by attorneys David Levitt and Shirley McLaughlin of Adler & Colvin. Join us on Thursday, January 30, for NCPGC's session on new laws, recent cases, and topical issues in charitable gift planning. This event will be held at 12:00 pm PT.
About the Presenters:
David Levitt
Mr. Levitt's practice focuses on the representation of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, with an emphasis on program-related investments, social enterprise, political advocacy, and nonprofit corporate governance.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Mr. Levitt is a former Chair of the Nonprofit Organizations Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. He previously served as Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Intermediate Sanctions of the Exempt Organizations Committee from 2006 to 2013 and Secretary and Vice Chair of the San Francisco Chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance from 2010 to 2012.

Mr. Levitt speaks regularly on nonprofit and tax exemption legal matters. He also has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco, teaching a nonprofit legal issues course in the College of Professional Studies.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE
Before joining Adler & Colvin, Mr. Levitt practiced as a corporate attorney, focusing in the areas of corporate and transactional law.
Shirley McLaughlin
Ms. McLaughlin specializes in Formation and Tax-Exempt Status, Public Charities, Private Foundations, Grantmaking and Social Investing, Social Enterprise, Nonprofit Structures, Relationships and Affiliations, and International Charitable Transactions and Operations.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining Adler & Colvin, Ms. McLaughlin spent four years as a Director of Grants Administration for two of the largest community foundations in the country. In those roles, she was responsible for compliance with state and federal rules and regulations for public charity and donor advised fund distributions to charities and charitable projects around the world. This included extensive expenditure responsibility and public charity equivalency determinations, 501(h) lobbying and advocacy tracking and reporting, supporting organization grantmaking and due diligence, as well as evaluating other nonprofit compliance issues such as endowment restrictions, gift solicitations, fiscal sponsorships and designated funds.
